Three days in early December

Nearly a week without writing. Although the teaching year is close to coming to an end, I feel that work is, if anything, ratcheting up in intensity as I squeeze in the hours to try to get a vast list of unfinished tasks completed before the Christmas break. This, and the short days, seem to have conspired to keep me indoors and screen bound. And when not working, I seem to have been fire-fighting a series of minor domestic crises, such as broken laptops.
Our tree is up. We bought it from the farm down the road from us, determined this year to put it up for Advent. We thought we were a day early, but I’ve since read that Advent begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas in the Anglican calendar, so we were accidentally on time.
